The second edition of the Mondriaan Jazz Festival #MJAZZ focusses on a progressive and cutting-edge international program, with curated supergroups, unusual suspects and acts on the verge of their big breakthrough. This year the festival has a special place for the fresh avant-garde Chicago movement and the strong connection with the renowned label International Anthem.
The underlying theme of #MJAZZ 2018 is bringing together contemporary ‘great spirits’. In the Main Hall of PAARD only curated groups will perform – unique compositions and one-time combinations in which the artists themselves and the listener are challenged. The other 4 halls are mainly dedicated to undiscovered talent and new sensational groups.
#MJAZZ 2018 will feature and celebrate some of the most relevant and urgent contemporary (jazz) musicians, such as drummer/composer Makaya McCraven and Marcus Gilmore, guitarist Jeff Parker (Tortoise), violinist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Dr. Dré, J Dilla, Flying Lotus), Cory Wong (Vulfpeck), Nate Wood, Ambrose Akinmusire, The Necks, Ben LaMar Gay, BigYuki, Casey Benjamin, David Virelles, Lars Horntveth (Jaga Jazzist) and from The Netherlands Eric Vloeimans, Niels Broos and Binkbeats. In addition, many others who, with or without unique compositions, ensure an unforgettable music experience during #MJAZZ 2018.
On Friday 12 October, a day before the festival, a special #MJAZZ 2018 opening concert will take place with Shai Maestro Trio.
MJAZZ: A festival full of discovery and new music, like jazz aficionado Mondrian would have approved!
