The Australian trio The Necks has been a cult phenomenon for more than 30(!) years, praised for their endlessly stretched and hypnotic improvisations. A truly unique group. The Necks have influenced a lot of bands and are outspoken inspiration for electronica giants like Boards of Canada, Squarepusher, Autechre and Tycho. At the end of the eighties these musicians sought an alternative in jazz and looked strongly at the application of minimalism in music by Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Philip Glass and Miles Davis. Each set of The Necks is a voyage of discovery, a steadily moving organism, with improvisation based on the interaction between the three instruments. Is this jazz? Is this minimalism at its best? Ambient perhaps? The Necks will close #MJAZZ18 in Koorenhuis Theatre, and is a must-experience. One of the festival’s favorites according to festival director Henk Koolen and PAARD director Majel Blonden. It’s also their first time live in The Hague!
