The Lesson GK

Line up: Lenny ‘The Ox’ Reece (drums, electronics) - Jonathan Hoard (vox) – Phaseone (MC) - Julian Pollack (keys) - Christian Almiron (keys) - Dave Cutler (bass)

Community. Magic. Church. These are just examples of words used by people who have experienced The Lesson GK live in the New York underground scene.

The Lesson GK started in 2012 as a weekly jam session in the basement of Arlene’s Grocery that has become the cornerstone of the underground hip hop scene in NYC. The band has grown beyond the critically acclaimed weekly NYC show and is making its international debut at Mondriaan Jazz Festival. Expect seamless elements of experimental hip hop, jazz, R&B, funk and progressive soul made by musicians who have all earned their stripes working with artists like Lauryn Hill, The Roots, DJ Premier, Joey Bada $$, Slum Village and Kimbra.

Capturing the community vibe in a way that’s become increasingly more challenging amongst the ever changing and more expensive Manhattan music climate, it’s allowed a true sense of family
