Tawiah

Line up: Tawiah (vocals, guitar, electronics) – Alex Reeve (guitar)

Tawiah is a singer-songwriter and DJ, born in the UK, with Ghanaian roots. Her sound is unprocessed and uncompromising. Her voice is a singular instrument that alternates between thoughtful restraint and passionate devotion. Her debut album is currently in production, which results in a raw and authentic piece of music.

Tawiah’s much celebrated debut EP (In Jodi’s Bedroom, 2008), propelled the young artist on to the front cover of alternative music bible Straight No Chaser, which won her a Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Award for ‘Best Newcomer’, and a two year world tour with Mark Ronson supporting Jay Z which helped to affirm her reputation as a prodigious live performer. Tawiah also appears on the latest album of The Cinematic Orchestra and has toured the world alongside Ghostface Killer, performing at a.o. Coachella, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza.

”Her voice blends force-of-nature vocals with shimmering vulnerability, underscored by a sound which she describes as ‘twisted soul’ – a kind of genre-straddling electronica underpinned by nu-jazz, indie and broken beat.”
