A few years ago in the wee early hours in North London, two friends, the Irish folk singer and acoustic guitarist Marc O’Reilly and contrabass player Jasper Høiby, grabbed their instruments and started playing around the proverbial campfire. Songs from O’Reilly’s first album ‘My Friend Marx’ passed by, but sounded all new. The acoustic bass of Jasper is very lyrical, in the tradition of a style reminiscent to that of bassist Avishai Cohen. The improvised little show was mind blowing and they both decided to come together on special occasions. Marc O’Reilly is an Irish troubadour, singer-songwriter and guitarist (and if he does not make music, he is a bone surgeon in Cork!). His voice has been compared to Thom Yorke and Ray Lamontagne. O’Reilly is no stranger to The Hague and surprised many with heavy rock-infused concerts in PAARD and THE LIFE I LIVE Festival. Jasper Høiby is one of the founders of supertrio Phronesis with which he toured the world, headlining many major jazz festivals in recent years. Høiby also started his own group ‘Fellow Creatures’ and performed at North Sea Jazz last summer. Expect original compositions, intense guitar riffs, a lyrical bass and the beautiful voice of O’Reilly himself. Goosebumps guaranteed.
