When you combine the forces of Erykah Badu, Gil Scott-Heron and Ella Fitzgerald, you will hear the highly talented Cuban singer Daymé Arocena. This young and talented singer, composer and choir conductor from Cuba mixes spiritual roots with neo-soul and jazz. She sings her songs in Spanish and occasionally in English. The international media describe her as “the new voice of Cuba”.
BBC radiojockey Gilles Peterson was blown away when he heard her powerful voice for the first time. Almost immediately he signed her with Brownswood Recordings. In 2015 she recorded her debut album Nueva Era on this label. Two years later she recorded Cubafonía. With this album she reintroduced the world to Cuban music. Arocena is a living example showing that Cuban music is alive and kicking.
Daymé Arocena performed earlier in the Netherlands where she played Paradiso Amsterdam and Motel Mozaïque in Rotterdam. For the first time in the Netherlands we present her and her band on a mainstage. Don’t miss out on this one!
